10 Pt Canada Whitetail

My name is Brett Nebel. I am from Staten Island, NY. I harvested this whitetail deer 11/06/08 in Haliburton, Ontario. I used a Marlin 35 REM with 200 grain bullet. The deer was scored at 145. He dressed out at 185 lbs.

It was November 6, 2008 when I was hunting with my brother Bobby and friend Guy Cadunzi (who runs this trip - no guides). The temperature was about 62-64 degrees F that day and sunny. I decided to change hunting spots from my ground blind to a ladder stand at about 12:30pm. I spotted the buck in thick hardwoods about 4pm that day. He was moving through the woods like taking a brisk walk in the direction of his scrape. I scoped him immediately at a 3 o'clock position, lost him a few seconds (my heart was pounding so much from his size) and regained focus. However, it was not until a 9 o'clock position until I had about a 2 foot clearing, (at this point I was extremely nervous that he might not present himself for a shot by now). I took the shot when he stopped (at about 80 yards away) and the buck took off. I said to myself how could I have missed, so I quickly loaded another bullet into the chamber. Being so excited by the adenaline I loaded two times ejecting the first bullet. The buck went about 10 yards and dropped. The time was 4:05pm. After being overwhelmed with excitement I started down my ladder stand. It was not unitl I was a few feet away did I realize how big this buck was and how thick his rack was. He was my biggest buck by far and now he is on my wall to remind me big bucks are out there and if you do your homework and put in your time you might just be granted another chance at a beautiful whitetail like this one.
Thank you,

Brett
