Cherokee County Oklahoma Eight Point

by Bob Sherbourne

Eight Point Buck

Eight Point Buck

I shot this buck at 20 yards on November 5th, 2009. I used a Mathews Outback. I had several trail cam pics of this particular deer, and a lot of other bucks, but this one was the one I was after. The stand I set up to get this buck with only had one way in to it, and the buck busted me twice going to it. So I decided to get to my stand several hours before daylight. The first time I never saw him. The next night I could hear deer running all around my stand for hours, and at first light I saw several deer. Then he stepped out of the brush. I made a 20 yard shot and he went about 200 yards. He is my best bow kill so far. I had this buck at 35 yards with my muzzle loader earlier in the season, but my powder had got wet and the 209 primer scared him off. At the time I was upset, but I'm glad I took him with a bow instead. An official Buckmaster scorer scored him on Nov 6th at 147 7/8". This will be my first pope and young buck. I'm pretty sure I will get Oklahoma's Cy Curtis award also. I hope to take another this year.
