Cuddeback Capture Digital Scouting Camera

The Cuddeback Capture is Cuddeback's entry into the lower priced digital scouting camera market.

This scouting camera is a 3.0 megapixel camera that doesn't have some of the bells and whistles that the more expensive Cuddeback cameras have.

I have given the Capture a C for picture quality. The pictures are not quite as good as those from the Expert. You can see pictures and read more about the picture quality here.

The Capture uses four D size batteries. We started with Energizer alkaline batteries and they lasted for almost 10 weeks. This isn't great battery life but it isn't poor battery life either. Rechargeable batteries lasted for almost two weeks.

The Cuddeback Capture imprints the date and time on each picture.

Setting up the Capture wasn't difficult. Setting the day and date was relatively easy and a rotary dial is provided for the time delay settings. After the first set of batteries died I didn't have any trouble resetting the date and time without the use of the instructions. I like this system much better than the previous Cuddeback cameras.

A strap provided to mount the camera to a tree that works quite well. This is also a much better system than the previous Cuddeback models. The case can also be locked closed with a small padlock, which is not provided.

The Capture has a 30MB internal memory and also accepts SD memory cards.

There is not an LCD screen on the Capture and there is not a jack provided to download pictures via a USB cable. To download pictures from the internal memory you have to install an SD card and transfer the pictures to the memory card.

Time delay options include 30 seconds, 1, 5, 15 and 30 minutes. This isn't a bad set of time delays. I'd like to have a shorter delay than 30 seconds for trails and food plots but 30 seconds isn’t bad considering many cameras shortest delay is one minute. It is also nice to have more delays between 1 and 5 minutes.

The Cuddeback Capture does not have video capability.

I have given the Capture a C for an overall grade. The camera is simple to use, battery life is okay and the pictures are acceptable, but when I'm looking for a camera to get a good picture or I limit my cameras to my best this will not be one of them.
