Food Plot Update

We made a repair to our disks and made one disking pass in the garden on March 20 to start to prepare for the food plot. The ground was too wet to continue but we were just happy that our repair was successful. Someone (I won't name names here) bent the shaft last spring after finishing one plot. Anyhow the one trip will still help to loosen the ground and we have until the end of May to get the food plot planted.

Saturday was a nice day with highs in the 60's and one brief thunderstorm. Except for the thunderstorm that caused us to make a one hundred yard dash dragging come-alongs and chains it was a great day to be outside. By the way, does anyone else seem to always go one click too many when using come-alongs?

We also performed ph tests on each of the plots with an inexpensive ph meter that my wonderful wife bought me this winter. They all showed a ph of between 6 and 7, which is just where we want it. Somehow all of these plots having a good ph was a surprise to me and it made me question the quality of my new ph meter, but each plot has had lime applied on several occasions in the past and I imagine that I will continue to do so in the future. They say that you can't over-lime.

The four remaining plots had been planted in Imperial Whitetail Clover last spring. Each plot currently has clover close cropped to the ground and do not look real impressive at this time just at the end of winter. If these plots perform like those in the past, the clover will jump up pretty good with the start of the spring green-up.

I plan on lightly re-seeding each of the plots that were planted last spring. The plot at the old house has an area that saw heavy deer traffic over the fall and winter that needs re-seeded completely.
