October 9th Whitetail Deer Photographs

As you might expect this set of pictures has shown us that the bucks have all shed their velvet. We did capture a couple pictures of a spike with one clean spike and velvet still hanging loosely on the other. One picture is included below. We also had a picture of a young buck whose spikes still had the blood red tint on them.

It has been funny how our two largest bucks are in the same small area. It will be interesting to see what happens as the rut draws closer. I'm not sure how well they'll tolerate each other. The nine point was a seven point last year that we caputured with our game cameras in several different locations, but for some reason he has stopped wondering. It will be interesting to see if he expands his territory during the rut. I'm still not sure of the identity of the larger eight point. I have my suspicions that he may be an older buck we have been watching for four years but I'm still not sure.

We did get a couple of pictures of two young bucks in a shoving match. Unfortunately they were so small that it was hard to tell they were bucks so the picture did not make the cut.

Bow season opens up next week and we plan on spending some time in our stands. I would like to get a look at one of the larger bucks to see for myself just how big or small they actually are. A nice doe to take a shot at would be good as well, but you can't beat seeing the first buck of the season. The game cameras are great but you can't beat a face to face encounter.

It's an exciting time of the year. Each time we gather our cameras we never know what may be on them.

These pictures were taken with our Trail Watcher 2060 and Trail Watcher 2040.

High rack eight point buck

This buck looks like he posed for this picture. We got several pictures of this buck in this weeks pictures but I'm still having trouble figuring out if we've seen this deer in past years.

spike shedding velvet

Here are two of our monster whitetail bucks. You can see the velvet hanging loosely on the spike.

Nine point whitetail buck

Here is the nine point buck. It looks like he is expecting to get his picture taken. I think they hear the camera shutter open.

Young whitetail buck

Here is a young buck that may have three or four points. Another one of our monster bucks.

Eight point buck

This is an eight point buck that we haven't seen a lot of. Hopefully he sticks around.

seven point buck

This is the seven point buck that has a couple small sticker points on his antler bases. I'd like to see him stick around another year and see what this genetic trait will develop into as he gets older.
