Reconyx RC55 Picture Quality

I have given the Reconyx RC55 a C for picture quality. The daytime pictures are better than I expected whereas the nighttime infrared pictures are disappointing although you can tell what is in the picture.

Below are some sample pictures taken with infrared at night. As you can see the pictures are what I would call grainy. There are grainy lines running vertically through the pictures. For what this camera costs to purchase I would expect a lot better picture quality even in infrared. On the good side the infrared seems to work OK in low light conditions without any funny coloration and you can identify the animals in the pictures.

I’m also including three sample daytime pictures. As I previously mentioned I was surprised by the daytime picture quality. They aren't as good as our top of the line cameras but it provides pretty good daytime photos. If I were giving a daytime only grade the Reconyx would likely get a B. One of the problems with the daytime pictures is that moving animals often appear blurry as you can see in the second picture below.

As you can see the infrared pictures aren’t the best pictures but the animals are at least identifiable, whereas the daytime pictures are pretty good.
